We ran a reseller before we ran a software company. The platform exists because switching between a quoting tool, distributor portals, spreadsheets and accounting software to complete one sale was costing us money, and nothing on the market fixed it.
VARCommerce, Inc. is an Ohio software company founded in 2012 by a value-added reseller to run quoting, purchasing, orders, invoicing and eCommerce in one system. The platform grew from that internal tool into the quoting and ERP platform used by commercial and government IT VARs, built and supported in-house from Dublin, Ohio.
The story
In 2012 a central Ohio VAR built a single-entry system so a quote became the purchase order, the order and the invoice without anyone typing it three times. Other resellers asked to use it. The company formed around the platform, kept the reseller's habit of listening to customers, and added storefronts, government contract features, inventory and CRM as those customers asked for them.
